Hi, I'm a student and I downloaded postgreSQL to my Mac but I found a problem. The program does not start, I do not understand why, but that's not what scares me. The fact is that a virtual user has been created called 'postgreSQL' which has appropriated all the functions of the administrator user. Can I kindly ask you why and how did this happen?Gian Mario Caggiu

Also what Web site are you referring to when talking about install instructions? After downloading the installer you ran the GUI installer, correct? Where there any errors when you ran the installation process? FYI, there are other choices on this page: https://www.postgresql.org/download/macosx/ One that may be easier to deal with at this stage is: Postgres.app Postgres.app is a simple, native macOS app that runs in the menubar without the need of an installer. Open the app, and you have a PostgreSQL server ready and awaiting new connections.
