 - I recommend PostgreSQL : Introduction and Concepts
by Bruce Momjiam if you are new to PostgreSQL.It's for
beginners to a level between intermediate and advance.
It explains nicely the features unique to PostgreSQL
not found in other DBMS.
 - I haven't read other books yet, therefore I cound't
rate it compared with other books.
 - Nice documentations can be found in
   http://techdocs.postgresql.org

Hi Elielson,

Nice question. :)

The "best book" for you really depends on what you are after!

Are you interested in a book which is easy to read, gives good
foundational concepts, and gives you decent skills with PostgreSQL, but
may not make you a guru?

Or, are you more after a book which is more technically advanced and
challenging, and assumes you have already learnt the easier stuff?

There are also reference volumes available (if that's what you're after,
but it doesn't sound like it).

The online books which are available have a decent amount of material in
them too, and you can buy hard copies of them so you have them nearby at
all times.

So... for us to *really* be able to give you good suggestions, we really
need to know more about what you're truly needing.

Hope that helps.

:-)

Regards and best wishes,

Justin Clift

Hi,

Well depends what are you looking for.

I am using a lot PostgreSQL: Introduction and Concepts by Bruce Momjian.
Then I have bought "PHP and PostgreSQL Advanced Web Programming" by
Ewald Geschwinde and Hans-Juergen Schoenig

The second one has as well PHP programming tips and same examples. The
book is good and is covering as well PG administration.

Mailing list I think is important and has good tips and don't forget the
documentation: http://www.us.postgresql.org/users-lounge/docs/#7.2

You might find under: http://www.us.postgresql.org/books/index.html more
details.

Bruce's book is a good one, but a large portion of the page count is
devoted to basically an SQL primer. If you aren't comfortable with SQL,
it's a good starting place.

A book that is a bit deeper in the installation and administration of
PostgreSQL is "Practical PostgreSQL" by John C. Worsley and Joshua D. Drake.

It's one of the O'reilly books, ISBN 1-56592-846-6.
