Hi Carol,

Unless it is impossibly difficult, I would try
to move onto the latest (8.3.4) postgres before
the situation worsens.  I had followed Scott's
advice in the past and never regretted.

My two bits, again.

You do know that version has known, fixed in later versions, data
eating bugs, right?
