I compiled on Linux with no extra options.

using the psql monitor comman line editing works but psql will abort
with signal 11 (SIGSEV) when trying to do a "real" edit by using \e

Confirmed on Solaris 9.

test=> \e
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

(gdb) bt
#0  0xfee344d8 in strlen () from /usr/lib/libc.so.1
#1  0x00027ea0 in trim_trailing_separator ()
#2  0x00027fb0 in canonicalize_path ()
#3  0x000145a8 in exec_command ()

Confirmed on BSD/OS.  Looks like we found us a bug.
