System Configuration
---------------------
  Architecture (example: Intel Pentium) : Intel Pentium III

  Operating System (example: Linux 2.0.26 ELF) : Linux 2.2.19 ELF

  PostgreSQL version (example: PostgreSQL-7.1.1):   PostgreSQL-7.1.1

  Compiler used (example: gcc 2.95.2) : gcc version 2.95.2 20000220
(Debian GNU/Linux)

Please enter a FULL description of your problem:
------------------------------------------------

When creating a table with a timestamp date type, timestamp becomes
timestamp with time zone.

Please describe a way to repeat the problem. Please try to provide a
concise reproducible example, if at all possible:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

in psql:
CREATE TABLE "foo" ( bar timestamp );
\d  foo

                   Table "foo"
 Attribute |           Type           | Modifier
-----------+--------------------------+----------
 bar | timestamp with time zone |

another sample:
CREATE TABLE "bar" ( foo timestamp without time zone );
\d bar

                   Table "bar"
 Attribute |           Type           | Modifier
-----------+--------------------------+----------
 foo | timestamp with time zone |

by reading the current docs
(http://postgresql.readysetnet.com/devel-corner/docs/postgres/datatype-datet
ime.html) I can tell timestamp and timestamp with time zone are two
different date/time types.

If you know how this problem might be fixed, list the solution below:

I'm afraid not.
