PG does support multidimensional arrays:

kjurka=# select array[array['a','b'],array['c','d']];
      array
---------------
  {{a,b},{c,d}}
(1 row)

You can then unnest these arrays according to the
testMultiDimensionalArray or testRecursiveResultSets examples here:
