PostgreSQL & Oracle DBA required Leicester, UK

Cromwell, based in Leicester, United Kingdom seeks an experienced DBA to join our established in-house IT team to help support our UK and Global business operations.

Primarily utilising Postgres PG9.4 and above, you will be responsible for supporting the business operations with ongoing support, maintenance and expansion of databases, whilst also providing general support for the IT department.

Experience in using Oracle 12c and above would be a distinct advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

• As part of a team, maintaining production, development and QA databases.
• Working predominantly with PostgreSQL, to a lesser extent with MS SQL and NoSQL technologies.
• Working with Oracle 12c on a daily basis.
• Working with developers to optimise queries & functions. 
• Using diagnostics to improve existing queries & functions and enhancing performance.
• Database maintenance - backup & recovery, maintaining replication and hot standby clusters.
• Database optimisation - indexing, analysing, bloat management, table and partition management, dblink and foreign data wrappers.
• Hardware resource management.
• Database monitoring.

Key Skills & Experience:

Essential:

·     Extensive PostgreSQL experience (PG 9.4 and above).

·     Previous commercial experience as a production / development DBA, including database architectural and administration skills.

·     Experience of performance tuning hardware & databases, and knowledge of back up & recovery methodologies.

·     Experience of query tuning, replication & clustering, and ANSI SQL knowledge.

·     The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail, communication and team working skills, and be self-motivated in approach.

·     Flexibility with working hours is essential to accommodate business requirements.

·     Able to work out of hours, on an agreed basis, to complete database administrative / maintenance tasks or react to database outages.

Desirable:

·     Oracle – 12c EE / SE & Dataguard experience.

·     NoSQL - JSON document experience.

·     MS SQL - version 2008 - 2019 experience.
