Not to dive too far out into the weeds, but technically, it is mercantilism you are fighting.  Mercantilism is often confused with capitalism, but technically they are arch-enemies.  Capitalism was developed as a refutation of mercantilism.  In Britain, the crown was giving state-sanctioned monopolies on various kinds of businesses.  This was mercantilism.  Adam Smith showed that freedom brought social wealth, and that state-sanctioned monopolies and oligopolies squelched it.  Many people conflate mercantilism and capitalism because they both deal with "business".  However, business entities usually favor mercantilism, not capitalism, because under mercantilism they can make money simply because the state says so.  In the modern era, it is usually not a direct monopoly that is granted, but rather influence (whether setting standards, winning large government contracts, etc.), and even, to some extent, patents and copyrights (though there is some debate on whether the latter is a form of intrinsic property right or a government-granted monopoly).

Open Source creates opportunity to all of us to have alternative solutions.
