Take contrib/ltree as an example, in Makefile, there are some lines:
ifdef USE_PGXS PG_CONFIG = pg_config PGXS := $(shell $(PG_CONFIG) --pgxs) include $(PGXS) else subdir = contrib/ltree top_builddir = ../.. include $(top_builddir)/src/Makefile.global include $(top_srcdir)/contrib/contrib-global.mk endif
I am taking these as the reason that extension can build outside of postgres source code, but I can't find an equivalent in meson.build.
