When you click on the database node, then it will connect (except the maintenance database) and expand the tree view. You can also disable the automatic tree expanding feature by setting the value of File > Preferences > Browser tree state saving interval to -1.
what I would like is a way to "close" or disconnect from all opened dbs and collapse the tree view for each individual db

Although I can disconnect from individual db one by one it is a tad slow process so I would love to be able to disconnect from all open databases on a server in one go, but could not find how to do it.
Is that possible ?
All the connected databases will be disconnected if you just disconnect the server itself.
