Windows.I hate Windows. I loath Windows, and would love to see the U.S. Economy rebound from all of the production
gainedby everyone universally abandoning Windows…

The server is using unix socket:
-c unix_socket_directory=/var/pgsql_socket

The client (psql) using looking:
 >     connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?

You can try using tcp/ip instead by passing -h localhost:

psql -U postgres -h localhost someDbName
