You want the TG_OP variable. For example:

IF TG_OP = 'INSERT' THEN
   .. code here ..
ELSIF TG_OP = 'UPDATE' THEN
   .. code here ..
ELSIF TG_OP = 'DELETE' THEN
   .. code here ..
END IF;
