i try to install postgreql on mandrake 8  with source version

i do

./configure gmake
su
gmake install
adduser postgres
mkdir /usr/local/pgsql/data
chown postgres /usr/local/pgsql/data
su - postgres /usr/local/pgsql/bin/initdb -D /usr/local/pgsql/data
/usr/local/pgsql/bin/postmaster -D /usr/local/pgsql/data >logfile 2>&1 &

/usr/local/pgsql/bin/createdb test
/usr/local/pgsql/bin/psql test


et when i try initdb ; i ve this message:



[postgres@localhost data]$ /usr/local/pgsql/bin/initdb -D
/usr/local/pgsql/data
The files belonging to this database system will be owned by user
"postgres".
This user must also own the server process.

Fixing permissions on existing directory /usr/local/pgsql/data... ok
creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/base... ok
creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/global... ok
creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/pg_xlog... ok
creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/pg_clog... ok
creating template1 database in /usr/local/pgsql/data/base/1...
initdb failed.


i really don t know why initdb failled
