Maybe. Sometimes. In some cases. But even in those cases, easier is not
always better.

We've had "the symlink discussion" from time to time in the past. Some
folks are very comfortable with symlinks as part of the PostgreSQL
design model. But I'm *very* uncomfortable with symlinks in that role.

istm that Mark's suggestion for a command line option to specify a
configuration file (hmm, probably one or two more too) is well within
the scope of a reasonable feature for a good user interface. Configuring
a system should not require creating symlinks imho, especially not by
hand.
