You seem to be very skeptical about open source databases. Well, maybe you shouldn't. :^) Some people use MySQL and think it is a good database because it fulfill their needs. Then, some people use Pgsql and think it is a good database, also because it fulfill their needs. What you've got to do is to find out what features you'll be needing and then choose the DB accordingly. My guess is that you'll end up choosing Pgsql, since you're coming from SQL Server and probably don't want to loose functionality. But, then again, maybe you don't need that much functionality and will do better by using MySQL.
