I'm responding to that email seperately. Just a matter or addressing all

This comes back to my problem with the dynamic approach: the user might
get a certain experience but with the declarative approach the
expectation matches the result.

I cannot offer any evidence but it's what we see companies doing.

The thing is, people with lots of data usually have good hierarchical
storage systems. Can we really do better?

I don't think it's contrived. How about the use case else where in the
thread which is based on post code?

The reason we are (Greenplum) looking at better partitioning is that
using the existing approach is too error prone, too different to other
vendors, too difficult to management and too hard to reconfigure.
