Qingqing Zhou, Magnus Hagander, Merline Moncure, Andrew Dunstan and
Tom Lane found, tested and implemented a big performance boost for
PostgreSQL on Win32 systems by re-arranging the way win32 polls for
the "fake signals" used to emulate Unix behaviour and eliminating a
kernel call in a very active codepath.
There has been a lively discussion on -hackers about Simon Riggs'
proposal to make a space-optimized NUMERIC type.
There's been a lively and wide-ranging discussion of how to implement
