pg_ctl stop does not work.

Hi Folks,


Please tell me how to bring down postgresql
system , the postmaster is dead but some backends
still seems  to be running...

Please Help , i do not want to loose data again !!

[root@linux10320 root2]# su - postgres
bash-2.03$ pg_ctl  stop
/usr/local/pgsql/bin/pg_ctl: kill: (5597) - No such pid
