Severity : serious
Summary: pg_dump eats memory when making backup
System Configuration
--------------------
Operating System : Linux RedHat 5.2
PostgreSQL version : 6.5
Compiler used : gcc 2.7.2.3
Hardware:
---------
Linux picknose.student.uit.no 2.2.10 #2 SMP Tue Jun 15 16:41:59 METDST 1999 i686 unknown

Problem Description:
--------------------
When running 'pg_dump -D -a -n <database>' to make a backup
of the data, the pg_dump program gets enormous. My database
makes a 104 MB backup file, and the pg_dump program had
~90MB memory usage. Larger databases gives a bigger memory
footprint, sometime to much for the machine.
