Scary that all these people don't know the correct history!!!!

Originally there was Ingres from Stonebreaker's lab at Berkeley. This was
then commercialised to become what is now known as Ingres. The original
"University Ingres" is still freely available. "University Ingres" uses
its own query language, QUEL.

Stonebreaker's follow up project was Postgres (as in "after Ingres") which
used a follow-up query language, POSTQUEL. This was commercialised to
become Illustra (now bought up by Informix and integrated into Universal
Server). The original postgres (POSTQUEL based) can still be found on
te net...

Two Ph.D. students from Stonebreaker's lab, Andrew and Jolly,
decided to rewrite a lot of Postgres and replace POSTQUEL with SQL. This
was released as Postgres95 and this was then taked over by the net development
community and became the current PostgreSQL

I hope that clears it up for all!!!!
