Do a backup in sql mode (not compressed) and load the output to a text editor.
There you can find anything you need.

No, it doesn't.
For example, I want to see if a given string is used within a function. I want to be able to see all the uses of a function: in other functions, in select stmts in views, etc.

pgAdmin 1.16 (right now in beta) gives you the ability to search for objects' names that contain a specific string. But I guess it doesn't go as far as you want, does it?
