Recording Date,Time and UserId when a record is modified

Hi

When a record has been modified, I would like a field on that record updated with the date and time.  Do I use
TIMESTAMP? How do I set this up? 

Is is possible to update this same record with the user ID of the person who modified it?  How can I do this?
