I should hope so.  That's what happens when your system shuts down...

Here's what my postgresql script does when passed 'stop':

killproc postmaster
sleep 2
rm -f /var/run/postmaster.pid
rm -f /var/lock/subsys/postgresql

Kills the postmaster, and cleans up the mess.
