Is there a way to find out how much disk space I will need
for the dump file before I run pg_dump on the database?

contrib/dbsize gives the diskspace the database is occupying.

not sure though how much space will dup file from pg_dump
occupy. BTW you could use -Fc otpion to produce commpressed
dumps.
