Hmm, is this normal on your system? Because this would indicate a serious problem with your configuration (it's certainly not Postgres' fault).

Try shutting down the postmaster again, and if the smhs are still there, then maybe you should doublecheck the scripts/commands you use for shutting the postmaster down.
