configure errors when installing 6.4

I have similar problems to Tony Reina and his SGI's running IRIX 6.5.

I am running Linux 5 and when I run configure I get the error "C compiler cannot
create
executables".

i have reinstalled gcc and gcc++ on my machine but cant get it to work

Has anyone resolved this successfully ?
