Docs Mailing List Delivery Issues

Web Team,

For a long time now many of the emails posted to the -docs mailing list, which do show up in the archive, do not get sent to me even though I am a subscriber to that list.  I do get some, but not all, and rarely the original email.

Specifically, today, I received the first reply, sent by Michael:

But neither the original posting:

nor Tom's response to Michael's post:

This is the only list where I have noticed this inconsistent delivery.

David is a huge help on these lists. How can this be debugged? Here is
the full thread:

    https://www.postgresql.org/message-id/flat/20200803074904.GO3317%40paquier.xyz#cd21449375f9ad14b300b9db7c2cc1bb

One problem with this thread is that it was reposted several times, I
suppose because the original submitter was having problems. Look at all
these posts from the last week:

    https://www.postgresql.org/search/?m=1&q=Built-in+Operator+Classes&l=&d=7&s=r

David, can you look at all of these, check what wasn't delivered, and
find a pattern?

On this specific topic the OP posted to -hackers, -bugs, and -docs.  I received everything on -hackers and -bugs and what I described above from -docs.

I have not received the "innovative Serializable..." thread's two postings today (original plus Bruce) nor Bruce's "Re: 7 decimal digits precision" nor the original from the 30th.

"UTF8 conversion" thread of the 25th I have Tom's response but not the PG Doc comments form original.

Again from today, I do not have Andrey's resurrection of the bytea thread but I have all five of the replies (Bruce, Joe, Bruce, Alvaro, Bruce)

This definitely sounds very strange.

But in fact, I am more curious as to how you received *any* reply, as you don't seem to be subscribed to the -docs list :) And according to our logs, we did *not* deliver the reply by Michael to your address.

Are you by any chance subscribed to it using a different address than david.g.johnston@gmail.com? That could explain me not finding anything in the logs...

I did receive the “Procedures” doc form posting sent out a little while ago...

Yeah, that one is better :)

On this one I see:
2020-08-03 07:15:12 [27067] 1k2Ugg-0006yS-55 => polobo@yahoo.com R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp H=mta6.am0.yahoodns.net [67.195.204.73] I=[217.196.149.56] X=TLS1.2:ECDHE_RSA_AES_128_GCM_SHA256:128 CV=yes DN="C=US,ST=California,L=Sunnyvale,O=Oath Inc,CN=*.am0.yahoodns.net" C="250 ok dirdel" QT=1s DT=1s

That's us delivering  38d55061.9604.173b32c60ec.Coremail.mailtch@163.com after a 1 second delay to yahoo.

They appear to then in their infinite wisdom have decided not to deliver it onwards to you.

They have also not generated a bounce for it, so it *should* be somewhere in their systems.

So unless you can find it in some trash/spam folder in yahoo, then they have simply decided to eat it without letting you or us know. I bet if you look carefully, you may see a similar pattern on pgsql-novice which is also subscribed with that address.

In the end, unless you have a strong reason to want to keep that one on a separate email address, I would advise you to unsubscribe the yahoo address and resubscribe with your gmail address. Yahoo are notoriously terrible at actually delivering email, so I'm not entirely surprised at this happening specifically to a yahoo address...

Thank you Magnus.  Given that I had all of the others switched over to send directly to gmail I didn't really think to check the old Yahoo! account.

I'm unsure how to unsubscribe those now that my community account only knows about my newer gmail address.  I've subscribed both of those to my gmail, are you able to unsubscribe the yahoo address from any/all lists?

These did end up in the junk folder in my Yahoo! account - which I never check since I forward all of the good email from there to gmail.

You should have been able to use the 'unsubscribe' link in the headers
of those emails, but no worries, I've gone ahead and unsubscribed your
yahoo address already.
