Odd - it works for me on the same platform. Is there a log file left in %APPDATA%\pgAdmin (and if so, can you send it)? You may need to remove the 1.3 log first.

I did look at that.

the log was 0 bytes when running  1.4

It didn’t seem to get as far as the first log entry just hanging on splash screen.

I also used process monitor to see if it was hitting a permissions issue.

I also have 3 versions of visual studio installed so that may complicate the environment.

I am installing as administrator for use by non admin user.

Sorry I know the above is not much to go on.

Urgh.

I also used process monitor to see if it was hitting a permissions issue.

Can you send the output please? Might give a hint as to how far it's getting.

I also have 3 versions of visual studio installed so that may complicate the environment.

I also have multiple versions installed, so I don't expect that to be an issue.

I am installing as administrator for use by non admin user.

Does it run from the admin account you installed it under?

Also, long shot but is there anything in the event logs?

Sorry I know the above is not much to go on.

Here is the PML file process monitor log from sysinternals.  I could sen csv but it would be very hard to read.

Its large so I google drived it I hope that is not against mailing list policy.

No it runs as a separate user.  This does work for 1.4 though.

I also tried running everything under administrator and that prodced same results.

As suspected nothing there

OK, this doesn't show much (thanks though). I suspect where it's getting stuck is a check the client makes to ensure the server thread is running and serving requests. Essentially it has a "ping" REST API that the runtime will keep calling until it gets a response. Once it does, it'll hide the splash screen and display the main window. There was a bug in this check which I fixed in 1.4 if memory serves.

So, I wonder if there's something in your network setup that's preventing it from responding as expected. What is in your hosts file? Do you have IPv4 enabled? What about other protocols?

Thanks.

hello there.

I have the same issue :

Windows 7 64

This is a new computer (i'm new in my company) so this is my first install
of pgadmin on this machine.

The pgadmin4.log file is also empty for me.
The splash screen is displayed, then pgadmin CPU usage fall to 0, its cpu
counter do not move.
same problem if launched as admin

On this machine i have installed :
VS 2017 community edition
Visual code

i am behind a proxy that often blocks any uncommon port...

no problem with pgadmin 3 1.22

+ some other common stuffs.

Hmm, OK. It connects to "localhost", but the port number is random for both security reasons and to support multiple users on the same machine.

If you disable the proxy server temporarily, does that fix it?

That was sounding like a real possibility when I read it before going to bed last night. Unfortunately, when I tested this morning I found it's not the cause, at least for me. My Windows 7 box does have v6 enabled (and does return ::1 for localhost) but pgAdmin still worked fine. I even tried completely disabling v4, but it still worked.

I think the next step is to try disabling the proxy. If that works, we then need to figure out a real solution, but at least it'll point us in the right direction.

Disabling proxy in IE  does fix this.

However I cant do this as I lose internet access.

Adding localhost or 127..0.0.1 to bypass lsit doesn’t work either.

OK. I've setup a test environment here and I can reproduce the problem. I can connect to the server we start using IE (though I get "Unauthorized" back as I don't know the random access key), so it seems that for some reason the runtime/QtWebKit is not paying attention to the exclusion addresses or the "bypass proxy for local addresses" options, despite picking up the other parts of the config.

I've created a ticket at https://redmine.postgresql.org/issues/2398 and assigned it to Neel to investigate further.
