In my opinion the elephant is one of the things that gave the site it's instant appeal. Without it the front page looks bland and uninteresting. Also, you've added a 'Download Now' link. Under the PostgreSQL 8.0 banner (and in the same box) that reads as if you can download PostgreSQL 8 already. Shifting the description into another box would fix that of course. Regards, Dave.

Just to fill everyone else in, here is what the content was: "After many months of work on the part of a number of people, the PostgreSQL web team are proud to release the new website to the community. In particular, special thanks are given to Andreas Grabmüller, Alexey Borzov and Omar Kilani for the hard work they've put in building the framework and developing the site." This isn't a product announcement. It does not belong in the product announcement box. It looks very much like a news item, however. Since you made the decision to put up the site prior to the release (which wasn't what was originally discussed--the design is for the launch of 8.0; there's no point putting it up before then), it has no place there.
