Hi, We have a table which consists of 3 millions of records and when we try to delete them and run VACUUM VERBOSE ANALYZE on it in production environment , it takes 6/7 hours to process. our understanding is that ,there are other processes running in the prod environment which may acquire lock on this table and due to this vacuum keeps waiting continuously for getting lock and due to this it takes long time to finish . can any body suggest me a solution by which we can reduce the time to 1 to 2 hours ? please reply me on this with your suggestions . -- View this message in context: http://postgresql.nabble.com/VACUUM-VERBOSE-ANALYZE-taking-long-time-to-process-tp5865303.html Sent from the PostgreSQL - performance mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

You make it sound like you are deleting all records. If that's true, why not TRUNCATE? It'll be a lot faster, and also leaveyou with no need to vacuum.
