Mac OsX

Hi All

Ive got a brief to convert the existing functionality of a fairly
sophisticated ms-access database to an sql backend and then add a web
(apache/php) interface to it. It will be running on a beefy mac box with
os x.

First, I have to evaluate which server I'm going to use - and seeing as
I'm already inolved with similar (non mac) projects with postgres, I'd
like to go that way.

So is postgres a viable option for osx (jaguar I think), or do I go back
to mysql?
I'd love to hear from anyone with real world experience.
by viable I mean it can be obtained in binary form, doesn't require a
very specific version/patch level of os x, as well as works (properly).

Thanks all

I've had no problem running it on OS X. An excellent binary
distribution can be found at www.entropy.ch/, and everything works as
should be expected.
Although to be honest, my machine is not the production database, it's
the test one, but I still haven't had any problems whatsoever.

Hi Glenn,

You can download a PostgreSQL v7.3.0 binary from

http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/postgresql/

Or v7.3.1 compiles out of the box from source. I haven't yet tried v7.3.2,
although I doubt there will be too much trouble.

Also v7.3.1 can be installed using fink now also

http://fink.sourceforge.net

I have been using it on 10.1/jaguar with no bother for months now.

Cheers
