Hi All<br /><br />I am unable to compile the source code for windows.<br />the command in the INSTALL file  nmake /f

Probably,
Supposing you are using source of 8.1.4, it is necessary to bring Stable of CVS 
or to apply PATCH with reference to the following. 
http://archives.postgresql.org/pgsql-patches/2006-05/msg00232.php
