RH9 is not a supported platform by RedHat or PGDG.

Because you are using a very old version of RH.
I strongly suggest you update your version of RH to FC5 or better yet
Ubuntu.
Also this really is better served on pgsql-general not hackers.

If you provide me a RH9 box, I can help you.
