Обсуждение: What is wrong ?
Hi,
I have been trying to have PostgreSQL up on the top of cypwin for sometime without succee. After I follow the
instruction on, I get the following error messages:
$ initdb -D /usr/share/postgresql/data
The program
'/usr/bin/postgres'
needed by initdb does not belong to PostgreSQL version 7.2.1, or
there may be a configuration problem.
This was the error message issued by that program:
/usr/bin/postgres: invalid current euid 500
Can anyone tell me what is missing?
Thanks very much.

Do you have a valid /etc/passwd file? Please read the README:

In the README, see NT services Cygwin PostgreSQL installation procedure
step 2:
2. Create the "postgres" user account:
# cmd /c lusrmgr.msc # [3]
# mkpasswd -l -u postgres >>/etc/passwd

You are welcome.
