Dear list members as I am a new subscriber of this list, I think introducing myself wouldn't be a bad idea. My name is Anastasios (30 y/o), and I am currently engaged in a project (GO-GEN), where we have bundled some open source and free software tools and libraries to a development and runtime platform named CapStone, available as beta release now. PostgreSQL is one of these fine parts, we like to promote via CapStone open source distribution, and promotion is my exciting job at GO-GEN :-) Thus it's been obvious for me to subscribe to this interesting list. I am working for 10+ years as non-techie for several companies of the IT industry, e.g. Digital (DEC), short time at Informix, started an own software company in 1996 (Aeonic), unfortunately later with extraordinary smart and hype investors, since liquidation of Aeonic in 99 I am a free consultant for IT strategy and project management, at last creating with a talented team an universal CRM and user management system for the ~ 5,000 german trade organizations for skilled crafts (www.zdh.de) and their roughly one million member companies (successfully at the end, but for the price of some new gray hair on my head). I am dying for pasta food, movies (any genre) and interesting conversations. As newbie to this list I think, I will retrain myself for the next time and just read your postings until I have the feeling, that I can contribute something useful. Nevertheless you can ask me or comment whatever you like to. Greetings from a rainy Berlin Anastasios -- International Technology Holding Corp. Anastasios, > As newbie to this list I think, I will retrain myself for the next time > and just read your postings until I have the feeling, that I can > contribute something useful. Particularly, we could use your help with distributing releases to the non-English-speaking press; what languages do you speak? Do you have tech press addresses in Europe? -- Josh Berkus Aglio Database Solutions San Francisco
Josh, > Particularly, we could use your help with distributing releases to the > non-English-speaking press; what languages do you speak? Do you have tech > press addresses in Europe? > My native language is German and our project office is in Berlin. Acceptance of and support for open source software is growing in Germany, particularly in government and public authorities (City of Munich is one of many examples). I suppose, there are already people providing PostgreSQL press releases in German language, as I saw at http://www.pgsql.info/ by Cornelia Boenigk. Nevertheless, if additional support is useful and appreciated, I would like to contribute. I still have some contacts to German press from earlier projects, and in any case we are preparing PR activities for our project (also for open source bundle CapStone, in so doing indirectly for PostgreSQL), so extension of press contacts is continuing. If you want, I could help to translate PostgreSQL press releases (like v7.4) into German, create a German PostgreSQL press kit, or I may distribute press releases for P via our list. Furthermore it wouldn't be any problem for me to bring PostgreSQL especially out, because I think, that most of the people I speak with could be interested in more specific informations about PostgreSQL. As our activities are in progress, it may need some time to be efficient for PostgreSQL. These are my first ideas how to contribute for the purpose of public relations. What do you think about? Do you have other suggestions? BTW: When do you plan to publish v7.4 press release? -- International Technology Holding Corp.
