functions.In the 1.6.3 I could see them direct under the public schema, but in the 1.8 I don’t have that

Did you enable its display on File/Options, display tab ?

Check that they're made visible, under File -> Options -> Display tab (this
is new in 1.8 AFAIR).

Beta 2 is pretty old at this stage - beta 5 came out sme time ago.
