Yes. The fact that your JDBC app has a similar problem implies there's
something up with your database. Try reindexing the whole thing.

The JDBC app works OK on XP but not Vista as well? In that case I'd
suspect a network issue with the Vista box. FWIW, the two times I ran
Vista on any real hardware (as opposed to VMWare), I had nothing but
trouble with the network interfaces. In both cases I rolled back to XP.

Odd that - it was wireless connections I had trouble with too.
