Ah, I was looking in the wrong directory. /usr/share/postgresql-12/ should
have only the templates. The conf file postgres uses is in
/var/lib/pgsql/12/data/ and has this content:
# TYPE DATABASE USER ADDRESS METHOD
# "local" is for Unix domain socket connections only
local all all trust
# IPv4 local connections:
host all all 127.0.0.1/32 trust
host all all 192.168.55.0/24 trust
# IPv6 local connections:
