There's no sign this is a PostgreSQL bug.

If you need help with using PostgreSQL, please ask on the pgsql-general 
(http://archives.postgresql.org/pgsql-general/) mailing list, on Server 
Fault (http://serverfault.com/) or on the EnterpriseDB forums 
(http://forums.enterprisedb.com/).

Have a look at the PostgreSQL logs in /var/log/postgresql and see if 
that tells you why Pg failed to start.

Because you haven't provided a detailed list of all the steps you've 
taken, it's hard to know what state your system is in or how it's broken.
