Postgres replacement on open SuSE

Hey Group;

Having nothing but problems with openSuSE's version of pgsql/.
I am assuming that they may have played with it and it is not working.
So I download 8.4.4 and it compiled correctly - check "make check" for 
proper overwrite directories.  It has never been used at this point.

Question is ./configure --help shows several --with options for files 
size and the like to enlarge the defaults.  Are there any good variable 
that should be included?

A test run shows it compiled with my custom variables and locations.
